SUMMARY:Food Bank Volunteer Days 2022
DESCRIPTION:AGE REQUIREMENTS at the Warehouse\, 6 years old chaperoned\, 15 years old unchaperoned. \nCome join us the Second Tuesday of each month at the Houston Food Bank\, where we will be working on various projects\, such as assembling community food boxes and back pack buddy bags. Anyone that wants to join us is welcome. Wear your Aggie gear and please grab any Longhorns and any other school’s alumni\, friends\, family or coworkers that are aimlessly wondering what to do on a Tuesday. \nWhen you arrive look for William Wade ’73 who will be fully decked out in Aggie gear including a 12th Man towel. \nWe currently have two shifts available on first Tuesdays: \nMorning Shift: 8:00 a.m. – Noon \nAfternoon Shift: 1:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. \nEvening Shift: 6-9:00 p.m. \nDon’t forget that this can be used toward volunteering community service hours for those in high school\, college and other community organizations. By registering in the Food Bank’s system\, the hours can be tracked throughout the year and downloaded at any time or pickup the certificate at the end of each shift before you leave. \nFamilies (with anyone age 6 years or older) and friends are welcome. Since it is a warehouse environment\, everyone must wear closed-toe shoes (no sling-backs)\, long shorts (to the knee) or pants\, and no low cut tops (OSHA regulations). If you would like to sign up or have questions\, please contact Jim Thorpe ’78.  Click here for more information on the Food Bank. \nDirections to location: Take I-10 east\, exit 774\, Gellhorn Dr (after McCarty St\, before 610 East Loop).  U-turn to feeder road heading west.  Turn right on Portwall St (green Houston Food Bank sign)\, turn right into parking lot in front of light green building (same area as HFB trucks and loading docks).  Park at the far end of the lot\, by the main entrance. \nRegister with the Houston Food Bank website for this shift by clicking here.  (Be sure to save the information for future registration). \nEvery Adult must register in their system before volunteering.  Please share this link with adult volunteers in order to register with our group. \nMinors (6 to 15 years old) will need a minor waiver form. These can be filled out at the front desk or contact Jim Thorpe to have one emailed to you.
