DESCRIPTION:The Caring Aggies Mentoring Program (CAMP) is looking for volunteers to support our 3rd grade students (in Aldine ISD)\, as well as our 9th & 12th grade students (in Spring Branch ISD). \nWe are having an info session and social open to anyone interested in learning about CAMP. \n\nDate: Thursday\, June 27\nLocation:  King’s BierHaus\, 2044 E T C Jester Blvd\, Houston\, TX 77008\nTime:  5:00 – 7:30 p.m.\n\nWe will plan monthly events for the students over the 2024-2025 school year. \n  \nCAMP volunteers mentor students as they develop through school and inspire them to pursue higher education by: \n\nReinforcing excellent academic standards\nBuilding confidence and leadership skills\nProviding fun\, life-enriching experiences\nRole-modeling qualities of success\n\n  \nIt’s fun and easy to become a volunteer: \n\nAttend one orientation session\nPass a State of Texas required annual background check\nCommit to mentoring a group of students approx. 4 – 5 days each school year\nRepresent Texas A&M and share the Aggie Spirit with our community\n\nTo learn more about CAMP\, click here: C.A.M.P. – Houston A&M Club (houstonags.org) \n

SUMMARY:Food Bank Volunteer Days 2024
DESCRIPTION:Come join us the Second Tuesday of each month at the Houston Food Bank\, where we will be working on various projects\, such as assembling community food boxes and back pack buddy bags. Anyone that wants to join is welcome. Wear your Aggie gear and bring any Longhorns\, other school’s alumni\, friends\, family or coworkers that are aimlessly wondering what to do on a Tuesday. \nFamilies (with anyone age 6 years or older) are welcome. Age Requirements at the warehouse are 6 years old chaperoned\, 15 years old unchaperoned. \nWhen you arrive look for William Wade ’73 who will be fully decked out in Aggie gear including a 12th Man towel. \nWe currently have three shifts available on the 2nd Tuesday: \nMorning Shift: 8:00 a.m. – Noon \nAfternoon Shift: 1:00 p.m. -4:00 p.m. \nEvening Shift: 6:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. \nDon’t forget\, this can be used toward volunteering service hours for those in high school\, college and other community organizations. By registering in the Food Bank’s system\, the hours can be tracked throughout the year and downloaded at any time or pickup the certificate at the end of each shift before you leave. \nNote: As this is a warehouse environment\, everyone must wear closed-toe shoes (no sling-backs)\, long shorts (to the knee) or pants\, and no low cut tops (OSHA regulations). If you have questions\, please contact Jim Thorpe ’78.  Click here for more information on the Food Bank. \nDirections: Take I-10 east\, exit 774\, Gellhorn Dr (after McCarty St\, before 610 East Loop).  U-turn to feeder road heading west.  Turn right on Portwall St (green Houston Food Bank sign)\, turn right into parking lot in front of light green building (same area as HFB trucks and loading docks).  Park at the far end of the lot\, by the main entrance. \nRegister with the Houston Food Bank website for this shift by clicking here (Be sure to save the information for future registration). \nEvery Adult must register in the Food Bank system before volunteering. Please share this HFB Registration Link with adult volunteers to register with our Aggie group. \nIf you have trouble registering online\, or if the HFB website says that a shift is full\, please email William Wade ’73 and just show up anyway! HFB is always in need of volunteers\, and you can sign in upon arrival; no one is ever turned away! \nMinors (6 to 15 years old) will need a minor waiver form. Bring any Longhorns\, any other school’s alumni\, friends\, family or coworkers that are aimlessly wondering what to do on a Saturday. \nWe have two Aggie Volunteer shifts available: \nMorning Shift: 8:00 a.m. – Noon \nAfternoon Shift: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. \nPlease wear Aggie gear so we can find you more easily! Upon arrival\, look for William Wade ’73\, one of our coordinators\, who will be decked out in Aggie gear\, including a 12th Man towel. All first-time volunteers receive one of our coveted and stylish Houston Aggie Volunteers t-shirts. \nDon’t forget that this can be used toward volunteering community service hours for those in high school\, college and other community organizations. Volunteer jobs vary in size and scope\, but the majority are done in air-conditioned areas and DO NOT involve substantial lifting. People with all levels of physical ability are welcome. \nFamilies (with anyone age 6 years or older) and friends are welcome.
