Now more than ever\, our long term partners at the Houston Food Bank urgently need volunteers to provide essential services and hunger relief to Houstonians during this challenging time. The food bank is taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of it’s volunteers. The New York Times has called him one of the most successful trial lawyers in the country. He often represents families of workers who have been killed or severely injured on the job. \nBefore he found success in the courtroom\, Buzbee attended Texas A&M University. Upon graduation\, he joined the United States Marines as an Infantry Officer and led Recon Marines all over the globe. \nAfter the Marines\, Buzbee was accepted into the University of Houston Law Center.  He graduated summa cum laude. After serving as a federal judge’s briefing attorney\, Tony Buzbee started his own firm. Buzbee has since been routinely recognized as one of the most successful and one of the most talented lawyers in the United States. \nBuzbee served as regent of Texas A&M and endowed the Dean’s Chair at the Texas A&M University School of Law. \nIn 2017\, the Tony Buzbee ’90 Leadership Learning Center was completed as part of the most comprehensive renovation project undertaken on the Quad since it was built in 1939. DESCRIPTION:AGE REQUIREMENTS at the Warehouse\, 6 years old chaperoned\, 15 years old unchaperoned. \nCome join us the First Tuesday of each month at the Houston Food Bank\, where we will be working on various projects\, such as assembling community food boxes and back pack buddy bags. Anyone that wants to join us is welcome. So please grab any Longhorns and any other school’s alumni\, friends\, family or coworkers that are aimlessly wondering what to do on a Tuesday night. \nDon’t forget that this can be used toward volunteering community service hours for those in high school\, college and other community organizations. By registering in the Food Bank’s system\, the hours can be tracked throughout the year and downloaded at any time or pickup the a certificate at the end of each shift before you leave. \nFamilies (with anyone age 6 years or older) and friends are welcome. Since it is a warehouse environment\, everyone must wear closed-toe shoes (no sling-backs)\, long shorts (to the knee) or pants\, and no low cut tops (OSHA regulations). He received his commission in the United States Army Field Artillery from Texas A&M in 1979 as a Distinguished Military Graduate. \nDuring his 31 years of military service\, General Ramirez commanded soldiers around the world and served in leadership positions in various joint and operational commands. He was the Deputy Chief of Staff for United States Central Command during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom\, and was the Deputy Division Commander for the 2nd Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea. DESCRIPTION:Looking to get out of the house and make a difference in the community? Now more than ever\, our long term partners at the Houston Food Bank urgently need volunteers to provide essential services and hunger relief to Houstonians during this challenging time. The food bank is taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of it’s volunteers. You can read more about their efforts to do so here. \nIf you are interested and comfortable volunteering\, sign up online with the Food Bank here. Choose a time slot that works for you\, with shifts available 7 days a week. Want to join a group of Houston Aggies? We will volunteer together every first Tuesday. AGE REQUIREMENTS at the Warehouse\, 6 years old chaperoned\, 15 years old unchaperoned. \nDirections to location: Take I-10 east\, exit 774\, Gellhorn Dr (after McCarty St\, before 610 East Loop).  U-turn to feeder road heading west.  Turn right on Portwall St (green Houston Food Bank sign)\, turn right into parking lot in front of light green building (same area as HFB trucks and loading docks).  Park at the far end of the lot\, by the main entrance. \nMinors (6 to 15 years old) will need a minor waiver form. These can be filled out at the front desk or contact Jim Thorpe to have one emailed to you.
