SUMMARY:Traditions Lunch – Brian Greene\, President & CEO Houston Food Bank
DESCRIPTION:Traditions Lunch – Brian Greene\, President & CEO Houston Food Bank \nSponsored by Brent Vannoy ’88\, Partner\, Hughes Watters Askanase \n \nDate: 2nd Monday\, March 9th\, 2020 \nTime: 11:30 Networking\, Lunch from Noon to 1 p.m. \nWhere: Grotto\, 4715 Westheimer Rd\, Houston\, TX 77027 \nCost: $25 covers both lunch and dessert \nParking: valet or complimentary \n  \nBrian Greene\, President & CEO Houston Food Bank \nBrian Greene is President and CEO of the Houston Food Bank\, the largest Feeding America food bank in\nthe nation. Over the last year\, the Food Bank distributed 104 million nutritious meals through its\nnetwork of 1\,500 community partners\, including food pantries\, soup kitchens\, social service providers\,\nand schools in southeast Texas. \nSince taking the top post at the Houston Food Bank in 2005\, Greene has led the organization to\nunprecedented growth. In August 2011\, the Food Bank moved into its current home\, a 308\,000 square-\nfoot warehouse and office facility\, purchased and renovated following completion of a $55.6 million\ncapital campaign. \nIn fall 2008\, the End Hunger Network\, a Houston-area food rescue organization\, merged with Houston\nFood Bank. Through Greene’s leadership\, HFB programs have expanded to feed more children and tap\ninto additional sources for food donations. In early 2016\, a second capital campaign was approved for\n$2.6 million to build a new home for the Keegan Kitchen inside the Houston Food Bank headquarters. \nIn April 2019\, Greene received the John van Hengel Fellowship award at Feeding America’s 2019\nHunger’s Hope Awards. The award recognizes an executive of a member food bank for his or her\nexcellence in leadership\, local impact and national influence\, and entrepreneurial spirit in the area of\nhunger relief. \nBefore moving to Houston\, Greene was the executive director of the Second Harvest Food Bank of\nGreater New Orleans and Acadiana for 12 years. In the five years prior\, he held the same position at the\nSecond Harvest Food Bank in Knoxville\, Tennessee. \nIn addition to a successful and respected career\, Greene has served on numerous Feeding America\nNetwork committees\, the National Council and on Feeding America’s Board. Outside of his food bank\nrole\, he has been active in the Global Food Bank Network and is an adjunct professor and serves as an\nAdvisory Board Member for University of Houston Downtown’s College of Humanities and Social\nSciences. \nGreene received a BA in Economics from Humboldt State University and an MA in Economics from the\nUniversity of Tennessee. \n \n\n\nClick here to buy tickets\nSell tickets online with Ticket Tailor

SUMMARY:Houston Food Bank Super Site Volunteering
DESCRIPTION:To all local Aggies\, please consider coming out to help the Houston Food Bank with its big distribution efforts this coming Saturday\, September 19\, and next Saturday\, September 26\, where over five thousand vehicles will be processed over a from 8:30 am until 1:00 pm at the Yellow Lot of NRG Stadium.\nFor these 2 events\, please bypass the HFB’s customary online volunteer signup process. If you can help out\, simply send an email by 10:00 pm either of the next two Friday evenings to William Wade ’73 at wvwade@airmail.net. His phone # is 832-228-5430.\nBecause of the heat\, volunteers on recent Saturdays have been in short supply. The good news now is that the high temperatures the next two Saturdays are expected not to exceed 87 F.\nVolunteers should meet at the Yellow lot off of South Main (McNee exit) at 8 am. Please take the designated “volunteer” exit and NOT the exit where there will be a long line of cars lining up early. If attending\, please wear comfortable clothing\, tennis shoes (no open-toed shoes)\, hats\, a mask\, and sunscreen. ALL work will be done outdoors. HFB will be providing a “cool-down” tent. Please wear maroon so William can find you. There are 12-16 large tents where food is distributed\, and each tent requires 10-12 people to staff.\nWith cleanup time\, volunteers are done by 1:30 pm.\nKids aged 15+\, with a parent\, can volunteer. Strict CDC protocols are followed. All volunteers need to be able to consistently lift 30-40 pounds.\nAll first-time volunteers will get a free Houston Aggie Volunteer t-shirt\, so please let William know the t-shirt sizes you may need when you email him.
